Retaining Brightness After Teeth Whitening Treatment

May 8, 2020

Filed under: Cosmetic Dentistry,Family dentistry,General Dentistry,Teeth Whitening — Ritchie Dental Group @ 12:11 am

professional tooth whitening Marble Falls

If you decide to brighten your smile with a professional teeth whitening treatment, you want the results to last as long as possible. Unfortunately, the same things that stained your teeth prior to the treatment can stain them after the treatment. Over time, common staining will take place. To help slow down that process, Ritchie Dental Group offers helpful recommendations to make your brilliant smile last.

Do’s

First, rinse daily with an anti-cavity rinse. This boosts dental hygiene, cuts down on bacteria, slows the buildup of plaque, and also helps whiten your teeth. Additionally, there are many over-the-counter rinses with an extra whitening agent which will help increase the results of the whitening treatment.

Don’ts

There are some daily practices to avoid because they will stain your teeth over time. These include drinking coffee, tea, soft drinks, red wine, smoking, and even some medications. If you cannot entirely cut these out of your life, rinse your mouth out after you use them.

Avoid acidic foods and beverages. These can weaken or wear away the enamel on your teeth, and thin enamel allows the yellow dentin to show through.

Artificial coloring in any food item can stain your newly whitened teeth. Candy, popsicles, and fruit punch are examples.

Remember the Basics

We probably don’t need to remind you, but brushing your teeth normally a couple of times a day will help you keep your white smile. You may choose a toothpaste with extra whitening or baking soda to help the process. Proper brushing should take you at least two minutes using short brush strokes, paying close attention to the gum line and hard-to-reach areas. Clean the outer surfaces of your upper, then lower teeth, as well as the inner surfaces. Finally, don’t forget the chewing surfaces and your tongue. Using good brushing techniques for 120 seconds will benefit oral hygiene, and permanent stains will not build up as fast.

It doesn’t take too much effort or money to make your whitened smile last. If you have any questions or would like additional tips on how to retain your fresh, white smile, call Ritchie Dental Group.

Let Teens Express Their Personality With Custom Braces

May 1, 2020

Filed under: Cosmetic Dentistry,Dental Crowns,Porcelain Veneers — Ritchie Dental Group @ 1:46 pm

Marble Falls Invisalign Remember when Horseshoe Bay adolescents undergoing orthodontic treatment were mortified by their metal mouth? Thankfully, for most young men and women, those days are over.

Wear Your Braces Proudly

Many Marble Falls adolescents wear their braces proudly and make no effort to hide them. They know they don’t need to wait until their teeth are corrected to flaunt a striking smile; they enjoy flashing their brightly-colored braces in all their glory.

Express Your Personality…

Another plus? Just as they mix and match their clothes and shoes, teens can change their wires and bands. Braces have become another fun way for fashion-forward Kingsland and Meadowlakes teens to express their personality.

…or Not

Of course, there are still some kids (and many adults!) that are not thrilled about having metallic fuchsia bands and neon yellow wires adorning their teeth. Discrete clear aligners are virtually undetectable and can align teeth just as quickly and effectively as metal braces.

Aligners are Removable

Aligners are not permanently attached to the teeth. They can easily be slipped out for brushing, flossing, meals, and sports. If your Marble Falls child plays a musical instrument that defies standard braces, removable aligners may be the best option.

Help Me, I’m Afraid Of The Dentist!

April 17, 2020

Filed under: Cosmetic Dentistry,Emergency,General Dentistry,Sedation Dentistry — Ritchie Dental Group @ 10:46 pm

Horseshoe Bay Sedation Dentistry If you are afraid of your dentist, you are not alone. At Ritchie Dental Group, we encounter many nervous dental patients. How do we calm their fears, provide a comfortable dental environment, and earn lifelong patients?

1) We carefully explain the findings of the initial dental examination and thoroughly outline any recommended care. The consultation also includes a discussion about pain control including oral conscious sedation. This allows our dentistry patients to make educated decisions about their oral health and necessary dental procedures.

2) Dr. Greg Ritchie practices gentle, pain-free dentistry.  Dental treatment will not begin until you are numb. Keep in mind, however, that every dentistry patient reacts to numbing agents and sedation medications differently.

Speak up immediately if you start to feel discomfort. We will pause treatment, administer an additional analgesic and wait until it takes effect. At Ritchie Dental Group, we never rush dental treatment.

3) We provide many in-office amenities at Ritchie Dental Group which help our dental patients concentrate on something pleasant during dental treatment. Not every dental patient chooses sleep dentistry. Sometimes chemical-free diversions such as listening to your favorite music provide a distraction while letting you remain clear-headed.

At Ritchie Dental Group, we understand dental anxiety and will help you overcome it. To schedule a friendly consultation, call 830-693-8833 or visit http://www.ritchiedentalgroup.com/.

7 Ways Bite Abnormalities Hurt Your Child

March 27, 2020

Filed under: Cosmetic Dentistry,General Dentistry,Orthodontics — Ritchie Dental Group @ 4:55 pm

Overbites And Underbites

Some growing mouths develop bite problems.

7 Ways Bite Abnormalities Can Harm Your Child

Jaw alignment issues can cause a range of issues for little ones.

  1. They can hurt!
  2. They can make it difficult to eat a nutritious diet because they curb proper chewing and swallowing
  3. They can delay or prevent normal speech development
  4. They increase the risk of gum disease and decay because oral hygiene is more difficult
  5. Over time, the child can develop a TMJ condition
  6. They can cause a distorted facial shape
  7. Unattractive teeth can cause low self-esteem

Fortunately, there are a variety of effective treatments, including orthodontia.

Bring your child to an orthodontist early!

If you suspect your child has a bite misalignment, it is especially important to have them examined as early as possible. By starting early, you can make sure they avoid years of pain and self-consciousness.

If you suspect your child has a bite issue, call Ritchie Dental Group.

Malocclusion (literally “bad bite”) is the term used for all kinds of bite problems including overbites, underbites, and crossbites.

Let’s talk about the various types of bite abnormalities.

Overbites and Underbites

When the lower jaw is smaller than the upper jaw, the condition is called an overbite. When the reverse is true, it is called an underbite.

Crossbites

This may sound impossible, but it happens.

Crossbites occur when lower teeth are in the wrong position. They may be incorrectly positioned sideways, forward or backward.

At Ritchie Dental Group, we diagnose bite abnormalities. Dr. Greg Ritchie provides orthodontic expertise to treat children’s bite problems.
