Retaining Brightness After Teeth Whitening Treatment

May 8, 2020

Filed under: Cosmetic Dentistry,Family dentistry,General Dentistry,Teeth Whitening — Ritchie Dental Group @ 12:11 am

professional tooth whitening Marble Falls

If you decide to brighten your smile with a professional teeth whitening treatment, you want the results to last as long as possible. Unfortunately, the same things that stained your teeth prior to the treatment can stain them after the treatment. Over time, common staining will take place. To help slow down that process, Ritchie Dental Group offers helpful recommendations to make your brilliant smile last.

First, rinse daily with an anti-cavity rinse. This boosts dental hygiene, cuts down on bacteria, slows the buildup of plaque, and also helps whiten your teeth. Additionally, there are many over-the-counter rinses with an extra whitening agent which will help increase the results of the whitening treatment.

There are some daily practices to avoid because they will stain your teeth over time. These include drinking coffee, tea, soft drinks, red wine, smoking, and even some medications. If you cannot entirely cut these out of your life, rinse your mouth out after you use them.

Avoid acidic foods and beverages. These can weaken or wear away the enamel on your teeth, and thin enamel allows the yellow dentin to show through.

Artificial coloring in any food item can stain your newly whitened teeth. Candy, popsicles, and fruit punch are examples.

Remember the Basics

We probably don’t need to remind you, but brushing your teeth normally a couple of times a day will help you keep your white smile. You may choose a toothpaste with extra whitening or baking soda to help the process. Proper brushing should take you at least two minutes using short brush strokes, paying close attention to the gum line and hard-to-reach areas. Clean the outer surfaces of your upper, then lower teeth, as well as the inner surfaces. Finally, don’t forget the chewing surfaces and your tongue. Using good brushing techniques for 120 seconds will benefit oral hygiene, and permanent stains will not build up as fast.

It doesn’t take too much effort or money to make your whitened smile last. If you have any questions or would like additional tips on how to retain your fresh, white smile, call Ritchie Dental Group.

5 Compelling Reasons To Consider Dental Sealants For Your Child

September 6, 2019

Filed under: Family dentistry — Ritchie Dental Group @ 8:47 am

kids dental sealants Marble Falls

The team at Richie Dental Group wants to keep their patients healthy. A key factor to good dental health is having sealants placed on back molars.

Why to Consider Dental Sealants

  1. Children without sealants have almost three times more tooth decay than children with sealants. (Centers For Disease Control)
  2. Your dental insurance plan may cover sealants For parents without dental insurance, sealants are worth the price. You will likely skip fillings and additional dental visits. Ritchie Dental Group recommends having sealants applied as early as possible.
  3. With proper care, sealants can last for many years. They protect your child during the years they are most likely to get cavities. By practicing proper oral hygiene and refraining from biting into hard objects, your child can maximize their lifespan.
  4. The application process is painless. Our team will clean, dry and then place the liquid sealant material to your child’s teeth. It hardens quickly. Your youngster won’t need to skip meals after the procedure.
  5. In some situations, we can place sealants over existing tooth decay to prevent further damage. Dr. Ritchie will determine if your child is a good candidate for this application.

Sealants, oral hygiene, a balanced diet, and dental cleanings are essential for pediatric dental health.

Ritchie Dental Group serves the Marble Falls and Brady areas. We offer a broad scope of preventative, restorative, and cosmetic dental services including sedation dentistry, general dentistry, porcelain veneers, and teeth whitening. Call us today.

Choosing A Toothbrush For Your Child

July 5, 2019

Filed under: Family dentistry — Ritchie Dental Group @ 8:29 am

pediatric dental Marble Falls

At Ritchie Dental Group, our team members are often asked how to choose the most basic tool of oral hygiene, the toothbrush. Picking a toothbrush can be as challenging as choosing a paint color, and there seems to be just as many choices.

If you have visited the dental section of your local grocery store, you know what I am talking about. There are brushes with bristles of varying lengths, brushes that massage your gums, and brushes that change color when they are used up.

Choosing a Toothbrush for a Child

Your child’s toothbrush should fit in their mouths and be easy to hold and use. Choose a toothbrush with soft bristles. It’s also important that they like their toothbrush (think Princess vs Astronaut) so pick one out together. If they like it, it will be more fun to use and less of a brushing battle.

Babies and Toddlers

Although many parents use a damp washcloth, you can start using a gentle baby toothbrush with your little one even before they have any teeth. Babie’s toothbrushes have very small heads designed to fit inside their mouth. Starting to brush this early gets them used to the toothbrushing routine and also keeps their gums and erupting teeth clean.

By the age of two, your toddler will probably want to brush their own teeth. Buy a special toddler-sized toothbrush, which should have a small head and large handle. This will make it easier for their hands to hold the brush.  At this age, they will need help from you after they’ve brushed.

Older Children

Keep buying child-sized toothbrushes. They’re not ready for an adult version until they’re adult-sized. They still need supervision in brushing. Once they can tie their own shoes, they’re able to brush on their own. Of course, reminders still come in handy!

Visiting the dentist every six months can help your child maintain a healthy mouth and good oral health habits. At Ritchie Dental Group in Marble Falls, our services include general and family dentistry, and cosmetic dentistry. Schedule your next checkup with us today.

3 Tips To Make Brushing Count

April 12, 2019

Filed under: Family dentistry,Oral Health — Ritchie Dental Group @ 8:00 am

Meadowlakes affordable family dentist

Many of our Ritchie Dental Group patients really want to know if they are brushing correctly. Having patients come for treatment and leave with questions answered—from which toothpaste to buy to proper tools and techniques—is our business. At Ritchie Dental Group we are all about educating our patients. Sometimes life is as easy as 1-2-3.

1 Soft Bristle Toothbrush

Gentle brushing will perform the same results as hard bristle brushing without the abrasive damage to gums and gum line. There is never a good reason to use hard or medium bristle toothbrushes. Better yet, wet the soft bristle toothbrush to be sure the bristles are pliable before brushing.

2 Minutes of Brushing and Flossing

Split the mouth into fourths and spend a good 30 seconds in each quarter. Hit the chewing surfaces, the inside surfaces, the outside surfaces and gently massage the gums. Be sure to clean the far side of the back tooth that is never visible but can collect food and allow decay to begin. Take two minutes to floss after brushing in the evening to remove any remnants the toothbrush couldn’t coax out and to clean any build-up. You have approximately 32 teeth and 32 gaps to floss clean. Two minutes should do the trick, but adding an extra minute for good measure can’t hurt.

3 Times a Day

Brushing after every meal should remain the goal. This is difficult for many who are not home for the midday meal. To achieve fantastic dental hygiene, brushing is priority one. There are as many toothpaste choices out there as you have teeth; without consistent brushing and flossing, those teeth are facing sure destruction. Don’t misunderstand, toothpaste is critical. Toothpaste acts as the vehicle that collects the debris, keeps the bristles pliable, fluoridates the mouth, freshens the breath and a myriad of other side jobs. But after every meal, gently removing food debris prevents breakdown on precious tooth surfaces. Even if you don’t use toothpaste after lunch, a quick brush can keep your teeth free of  buildup.

A Facelift For Your Teeth?

April 5, 2019

porcelain veneers price Horseshoe Bay

Have you ever wished for a minimally-invasive facelift for a tooth without getting an entire crown? Veneers are your solution! Porcelain Veneers are an effective and versatile cosmetic dentistry procedure that we at Ritchie Dental Group offer to our clients in the Marble Falls, Texas area.

Veneers are individual covers for the front part of teeth and are a terrific way to fix a myriad of tooth imperfections, particularly if you have:

  • Chipped teeth
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Crooked teeth
  • Unevenly worn teeth
  • Cracks in teeth
  • Discolored teeth
  • Minimal Misalignment.

Super-strong, tooth-colored porcelain laminate is shaped into thin shells and custom-fitted for each patient’s unique set of teeth. orcelain Veneers are more durable than Dental Bonding, which is sometimes used to fix the same varieties of imperfections. Dental Bonding generally has a shorter life span than veneers, so keep this in mind when comparing the relative costs of the two procedures.

How many Veneers should you get? This depends on how many teeth you want to enhance and the overall condition of your teeth. at our Marble Falls, Texas dental office, Drs. Greg Ritchie and his wife, Mendy Ritchie will advise you on the most effective strategy.

The thickness, enamel color, alignment, and shape of your teeth influence the outcome as well as whether you have any gum recession. Veneers are matched to your existing teeth so they will blend seamlessly, but if you are planning to treat several teeth, you definitely want to have them created in the same “batch” at the lab.

The first step in the Veneer process is to make a model of your teeth to work from. After that, a dental technician will use the model to construct the Veneers to the perfect size, shape, color, and extent of translucency. Experienced cosmetic dentists and dental technicians (yes, like ours) elevate the level of artistry in this. It is an involved process, but we are committed to seeing it through.

Many patients wonder if Veneers are as durable as their natural teeth. Though the Veneer tooth-prep process weakens the tooth very slightly, with proper care, Veneers can last up to 15 years. Our team can advise you in detail on proper care of orcelain Veneers .

If you are looking for a dentist with an artistic eye for flawless Porcelain Veneers, give us a call at Ritchie Dental Group. We have been serving the general and cosmetic dentistry needs of those in the Marble Falls, Texas area since 2000. Our cosmetic and aesthetic dentistry services also include:

6 Ways Dental Crowns in Horseshoe Bay Restore Smiles

February 14, 2019

Filed under: Dental Crowns,Family dentistry,General Dentistry — Ritchie Dental Group @ 8:08 pm

cost of dental crowns in Horseshoe Bay

Dental crowns have been around a long time, but they continue to play a key role in Ritchie Dental Group cosmetic dentistry. A dental crown often called a cap, covers the visible part of the tooth. Dental crowns in Horseshoe Bay are used for several common dental problems:

  • An old crown that is damaged or ill-fitting
  • A broken tooth
  • A tooth with acute decay
  • A tooth that has had a root canal
  • A tooth that is too small or misshapen
  • A tooth that prevents a proper bite

The Purpose of Dental Crowns in Horseshoe Bay

Dental crowns in Horseshoe Bay serve both structural and aesthetic purposes. They protect a natural tooth from additional decay and damage while permitting normal function. Plus, a crown can save a tooth from extraction and the ensuing bone loss. Cosmetic dentistry patients who get a dental crown should not assume that the tooth is now invincible. Crowns need daily cleaning and flossing just like all teeth. The remaining tooth structure just around the gum line could still become decayed and the soft tissue around the crown is susceptible to gum disease. Chewing hard foods or using your teeth as a tool can cause a crown to crack or break. Use scissors to open a stubborn plastic package; don’t bite and pull.

Schedule an Appointment

Greg and Mendy Ritchie can counsel you on caring for your new crown so that it will last as long as possible. For information on dental crown prices, invisible braces, conscious sedation, or teeth whitening, call Ritchie Dental Group today at 830-637-7227 or visit our website. We would be happy to help you improve your overall dental health with general and cosmetic dentistry in Burlington.

Oral Health in Marble Falls: How Often Should I Replace My Toothbrush?

February 8, 2019

How Often Should I Replace My Toothbrush? Oral Health in Marble Falls

As you stand over your sink and ponder the frayed bristles of your cherished toothbrush, do you think about replacing it? It’s a good question. We all brush our teeth on a daily basis. Like a good pair of jeans, it seems the more we use a toothbrush, the more comfortable it gets. As it turns out, that’s not a good thing when it comes to your oral health in Marble Falls.

The angle of the bristles on your toothbrush is an important part of cleaning. Straight bristles scrub your teeth and flex your gums. A light circular motion is enough to clean your teeth without causing damage.

Flat or frayed bristles are less effective and can even cause you to work harder. Pressing harder on your teeth can cause damage to your gums. So how often should you change your toothbrush? Anyone who has worried about changing the oil in their car has learned this basic rule of thumb; change your oil every three months. It’s the same with your toothbrush. Most dental professionals recommend a new toothbrush every three months. Your local Marble Falls Texas dental professionals at Ritchie Dental Group do, too.

The reasons to replace your toothbrush includes worn bristles and bacteria. Worn bristles, as we have discussed, are less effective at maintaining good oral health in Marble Falls. Bacteria can also build up in the small gaps of your toothbrush and may contribute to decay and bad breath. Make sure you keep your toothbrush in a sanitary location. Allow for good drying to help extend its life. Regardless of how long it’s been, if the bristles on your toothbrush look like they’re trying to get away from each other, it’s time to replace your toothbrush. Otherwise, change your toothbrush at the start of every new Texas season to keep it fresh and effective. For more information about services such as orthodontics, laser dentistry, and general dentistry, call our office today.
