Preparing Your Teeth
Once you and your dentist are both satisfied with a treatment plan, it is time to have your teeth prepared for their new veneers. The way your teeth are prepared can very depending on your desired result, but it includes your dentist removing a small amount of enamel from the front of your teeth in order to allow room for the veneers to be placed. The goal is to remove as little tooth structure as necessary since this is not reversible.
Dental Laboratory
After your teeth are prepared, an impression of them is made and sent to a dental laboratory. This is where technicians will make a replica of your teeth where the veneers will be made. This could take a few weeks, so your dentist will provide you with a set of provisional veneers. They will allow you to chew, speak, and smile comfortably until you are able to come back into the office for the final results.
Permanent Placement
Once your veneers are ready, your dentist will ask you to come back into the office. At this time, they will be permanently cemented to your teeth. First, the inside of your veneers and the surface of the front of your teeth will be etched with a mild acidic solution in order to open up tiny pores. Next, your dentist will apply a translucent cement that can fill these pores. This will essentially attach the two in a way where they become one unit.
